For the 4th year in a row, the Florence School of Regulation is proud to present its Lights on Women scholarship intended for women working in energy, climate and sustainability.
Who should apply
The Lights on Women Scholarship 2022 will offer 8 scholarships to women contributing to innovative solutions, research, and initiatives that accelerate a sustainable, diverse, resilient, and just energy transition. The scholarship aims to provide women of all ages, nationalities, employment status and seniority fair access to the technical training needed to advance their careers.
The initiative is aimed at a diverse pool of women applicants ranging from entrepreneurs to researchers, independent consultants to firm employees, but also students, advocates and communications specialists with a vision for a decarbonized future.

Women in energy
In 2022, women are still largely underrepresented in the energy sector with only 22% of women reportedly employed in traditional energy industries like oil and gas and fewer women reaching senior management roles in the energy sector than in the broader economy. In developing countries gender gaps in employment become even more visible, leaving an enormous potential for both personal and economic advancement untapped.
However, women’s role in the energy transition and in a bigger mentality shift is not to be underestimated. Women represent, in fact, a bigger share of the workforce in more innovative energy industries (32% of workers in renewables are women) and gender diversity is proven to be a booster for company performance.
With this scholarship, the FSR strives to propagate systemic change in the male-dominated fields we operate in and to bring LoW Scholarships recipients to participate in dialogue, decision making, and take centre stage in the sectors at international and global levels.
Our course offering
The Scholarship provides free access to one of the FSR community courses starting in the coming months. Our Training Portfolio includes courses – on a wide variety of topics and on different levels of engagement – which will provide you with the technical knowledge needed to take advantage of employment and leadership opportunities.

What we are offering under our lights on Women’s initiative
The recipients of the scholarship will be joining a community of like-minded women who wish to make a difference.
Visibility opportunities: Each recipient can publish an article on the FSR Knowledge hub as a Lights on Women contributing to increasing the visibility of their expertise.
Early access to the Energybase: recipients of the scholarship will receive early access to our Energybase, our database of female experts in the fields of energy, climate, sustainability.
Courses and deadlines to apply
Applications must be received by 24 April 2022. Successful candidates will be informed by the end of April 2022 (with an exception for those who will apply for the Regulation of the Power Sector which will start later this month. More info below) and will be provided with all relevant information on how to enrol in one of our community courses, which offer flexible learning paths, participant-led sessions and are designed to deep dive into the topic while interacting with your instructors and peers.

The courses offered by this scholarship are fully online and are only offered in English.
Who is eligible
The FSR’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to our mission and to our impact. We know that having varied perspectives helps generate innovative ideas to solve the complex energy problems in our changing—and increasingly complex—world. For this reason, no specific academic or professional background is required.
Instead, successful candidates will be asked to clearly express their motivations for applying for the scholarship, demonstrating how it will help them advance their goals, and illustrate their desire to invest in learning, networking, and joining a global energy community.
Also, all applicants will be requested to make a submission to an open-ended question regarding ways to contribute to the energy transition through their work, advocacy, studies.

How to apply
The application and supporting documents must be submitted in English and as PDF documents. Please have all documents and answers ready before starting the application form:
1. Your CV (2 pages maximum);
2. A motivation letter (1500 characters maximum). Make sure to provide a meaningful and well-thought-out motivation that tell us a bit more about you, your work, and what drives you.
- A summary of your experience, highlighting your expertise and how your work or research addresses an energy/climate/sustainability need or challenge. Can you give an example of leadership that demonstrates your potential for future excellence in the energy/climate/sustainability sphere?
- A thoughtfully expressed motivation for applying and how the scholarship would help boost your studies or career ambitions.
- Your future ambitions and how the course you selected will help you achieve your goals.
3. Written submission in response to the question: In which ways do you think you can contribute to the energy transition through your work, advocacy, studies? (1500 characters maximum)
