Deadline for applying: December 20, 2024
Description
Who are Energy Traders Europe?
Energy Traders Europe represents 170 companies from over 30 European countries. Those companies trade electricity, gas and carbon (and various other products). We aim to make sure that power and gas markets are well-designed, competitive and pan-
European. This allows them to make the biggest possible contribution to keeping costs down, ensuring security of supply, ensuring competitiveness and enabling the transition to a carbon neutral economy. We represent our member companies’ interests by working with decision makers to shape the design of markets, by developing standard contracts which make trading simpler and by developing IT standards to make the exchange of transaction data easier. The role we’re seeking to fill
European Energy Markets are some of the most heavily regulated in the world. Energy is traded both physically and financially – with different rules applying to each. Financial trading sees a mix of energy and financial regulation applied to companies – with both energy and financial regulators (ACER and ESMA) having oversight roles. Traders are subject to an alphabet soup of rules (MAR, MIFID, REMIT, EMIR etc) designed to strengthen market integrity and transparency and reduce systemic risk.
The rules are important – though they impose costs on trading businesses. Thus, ensuring that the framework remains proportionate and monitoring and, where necessary, providing analysis on the impact of changes on our member companies is an important part of the work of Energy Traders Europe.
This work is coordinated by our Market Supervision Committee (MSC). The workload of the MSC has increased significantly over the last year and we are looking for a new colleague to join the team.
The person we’re looking for will:
- Support the work of some of our Market Supervision Committee and several associated Task Forces and Working Groups.
- Make sure that the work of those groups is well-organised, allows all members to contribute and leads to the production and delivery of effective and timely advocacy material.
- Ensure that the views of all member companies are reflected in positions, provide information and feedback and field questions.
- Develop a network of contacts across the industry and an understanding of the challenges facing energy trading companies.
- Represent Energy Traders Europe at relevant industry events.
The person we’re looking for:
- Will have at least 3 years’ experience of working in the energy industry and, ideally, some knowledge of energy and financial regulation.
- Will be able to write and speak English fluently.
- Will either be based in Brussels or will be able to commit to being there on a regular basis.
- Will understand how the EU institutions and decision-making processes operate.
- Will have strong communication and advocacy skills – with the ability to simplify complex messages and target them to the relevant audience.
You’ll succeed because…
- You are interested in energy, and energy trading in particular, and have a desire to learn more.
- You are well-organised, able to plan effectively and are comfortable juggling several competing priorities.
- You are a team player with strong collaboration skills and a can-do attitude.
- You are able to understand complex pieces of law and regulation, while remaining able to distil complex ideas and communicate with clarity.
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable to work under pressure.
- You have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to interact with colleagues and member companies effectively and comfortably.
You’ll love it because…
- You’ll be part of a dynamic, diverse and very experienced team.
- You’ll be working on important, political topics which are priorities for Energy Traders Europe members.
- You will become familiar with one of the most important, but most complex, areas of the energy and financial sector.
- You’ll have significant flexibility about how you do the job.
- We offer an attractive package, on either a consultancy or employed basis.
